The Majestic
I made my first road trip with Erin... a day long excursion to the lovely small island town of Anacortes. Our first stop was to wander Main Street and check out all of the old buildings and eat lunch.

The Harbor
Next we took a drive to get a better view of the city and the harbor.
Erin climbs a rock and smiles for a windy photo.

Random Guy's House
I thought that this eclectic house was one of the coolest, most bizarre I've ever seen. I particularly dig the four story Rapunzel tower.
The boat houses the W.T. Preston Museum.

Seafarer's Memorial Park
This is a memorial to those from Anacortes lost at sea.

Our Lady of the Sea
This family statue symbolizes those who wait for their loved ones to return from their work or pleasure trips to sea.

Washington Park
Washington Park has lots of beautiful coastline and trails.

Cool tree!
It has lots of trees too!
Something about this weather worn tree just begged me to climb it.

Maiden of Deception Pass
Pole carving at Rosario Beach telling story of the lady of the sea (who was taken to the under water world then returned to bring bountiful harvests and fishing).

Bridge at Deception Pass
We didn't have time to explore Deception Pass State Park, but did get a chance to admire the views of the pass.

Side note: I liked Anacortes... very pretty and scenic. However, if you want to do stuff like museums or shopping or eating, don't go on Sundays because most of the town is closed. :) If you have a long day, or a weekend, you can drive from there to Fidalgo Island, or across Whigby Island, or take a ferry to the San Juan Islands. And, if you come in the spring, on the drive there you pass through the tulip festival. Very fun!
