The Brides of March
March 15, 2003

Beware the Brides of March
What: A Wedding! Another Wedding! and Another!
Dress: You MUST be wearing a bridal gown.
Bring: Rice, wedding gifts, and bar money.
When: Saturday, March 15th
This is a brides only event. Backhair accepted. Bring rice, wedding gifts, and bar money. Get married to local Portland landmarks/statues in an oaf-fish-al wedding ceremony by Rev. Killjoy, our Irish Catholic priest. Then drag your teary-eyed bridal asses to a local pub for a reception. Repeat dosage as necessary. Take only as directed. Last stop includes a bridal showdown for fabulous prizes!

Beware the (br)Ides of March
While this was the third annual Brides of March celebration in Seattle, this was my first time with the friendly crew. :)

What is the Brides of March?
Well, the Brides of March is a wedding dress required affair, open to the public in the name of free spirited self expression. The events happen in random cities across the country, including in San Francisco and Portland.

The lucky ladies
It's the Brides of March, a smug play on word, that gives everyone a chance to dress up for the (pretend) Big Day.

At the ceremony
Seattle's first Brides of March event was in 2001. "The Brides of March paraded through the streets of downtown Seattle, bringing joy to all! We married the Seattle Art Museum's 100 ft tall steel Hammering Man, then divorced the bastard for being a cold, uncommunicative workaholic who never came home."

Brian
Seattle's second Brides of March event saw the brides marry the ever so phallic Space Needle. "This time The Brides of March went shopping at Seattle's upscale downtown yuppie mall, Pacific Place, only to discover that Victoria's Secret had closed without us! Our plan to board the monorail was also thwarted by unexpected monorail construction, so we just had to bar hop our way to our intended: the Space Needle, Seattle's biggest phallic symbol."

Groom #3
Continuing the trend of marrying phallic Seattle landmarks, this year we married the most eligible Seattle landmark... the Monorail. After the ceremony, we mounted our new groom and took a vibrating 60 second ride to Westlake Center where we shopped for Godiva chocolates, maternity clothes, and fancy Jessica McClintock dresses. Following the shopping, we headed to Vons for some drinks. :)

Me and Luis
I picked up this young man on the street and he agreed to join us for a drink at Von's before heading to his play at the 5th Ave Theater (he's an actor and seemed quite okay with donning a veil and wandering around downtown)

It was a busy Saturday night, and after Von's I had to head out to another party. However, I'm glad I got to participate in the event and hope to hear about more in the future!
