June 2001... a busy month!

Seemed every weekend had something going on... Fremont Parade, Pride Parade, 24 Hr Relay, parents visiting, Laura moving in, etc. It's been busy as usual, but as always, it's been much fun!
The end of the school year meant finishing up lots of projects and getting ready for summer! One of my many projects for work was leading a group of middle school students in the painting of a mural for a local bus shelter. The group was fabulous and did tons of great panels!

24 Hour Relay
Another event I was involved with was Bellevue's 24 Hour Relay. It was a community building, overnight, all ages event with food, bands, rock wall, team building games, and more. I was the volunteer chair and had a great time bonding with the youths and committee members at the event.

Jason Webley
Jason's a local musician who thoroughly intrigues me... he's got quite a following, but doesn't seem content. He plays loud, fun accordion music, as well as softer ballads on the piano and guitar. He likes veggies, responds to emails in guest books, and is pretty sexy too... even if he wears the long hair wig sometimes. Nice combo! Small world side note: I met a boy at the Relay, who later became a coworker, who was actually once roomies with Jason. Bizarre!

Space Needle
Mom and Dad came to visit me in early June and we had a fun time! We did lots of sightseeing stuff (Titanic exhibit, Market, Underground Tour, etc), but also relaxed some and even worked some around the apartment. They were very good to me when they were here, and quite generous too (they bought me a microwave!). What sweet parents!

Pike Place Market
My parents and I stand with Rachel, the original bronze pig that marks the entrance into the market. She's also a piggy bank, collecting donations for the Market Foundation to help local clinics, food banks, and child care facilities. Got lots of goodies at the market, including jelly, dried apples, honey raspberry almonds, and some nice fresh rubarb! Yeah!

Before hair dye
I got my friend Houston friend Laura Beal a job here in Seattle with YVC and she moved up for the summer to be a team leader. She's my roomie in my tiny apt, and here she is getting her hair dyed by neighbor Cheyenne. Beal's a natural redhead, but decided to add some "volcanic orange" to spice things up a little upon arrival in Seattle.

After the dye!
The orange on top of the bleached sections took quite well! Very nice color!

Dieter!
What isn't there to love about Dieter?! He was a potential roomie, and I'm glad we're still hanging out even though I'm not living with him. He's fun, fun, fun and here he's pictured downtown when joined me for the Pigs on Parade spectacle... too amusing!

Fremont Parade
Famous for the nude cyclists, the Fremont Summer Solstice Parade is a crazy affair for the whole family! This year the police threatened to arrest nude cyclists, and Dieter and I got our photo taken in this mural depicting the threat. Such fun!!

Neighbors!
Chad is my next door neighbor, and I tend to see him every night! Cheyenne moved in, and now she and other friends visit frequently too! Pictured here are Chad, Cheyenne, and Jesse. :)

More Neighbors!
My downstairs neighbor Matt is not only cute, but turned out to be pretty fun too! Who knew? We hung at Linda, the Cha Cha, and he even came to Pride with us. What a good guy! He works tons, but hopefully we'll get to hang out with him again someday...

Pride!
I went to Seattle's Pride parade with Laura, Chad, and Matt. The parade started with Dykes on Bikes (probably about 100 bikes total!) and lasted for about 2 1/2 hours, even after the rains. What an event! While I went hoping to see boys in gogo pants, I particularly liked "Dykes with Wieners."

Center for Wooden Boats!
By the end of June we'd finished school and orientation and began our YVC summer projects. My first project was a fantastic two-week stint at the Center for Wooden Boats. It's right on Lake Union and when we took breaks from working, cleaning, and festival prep, we got to get out on the water! We used the umiachs, rowboats, sailboats, and even powerboats! What a great project, and what a fabulous group of youth!
