Family Pole in Vancouver, British Columbia

Sunday was a good day too… and it was sunny and warm! During big rains many years ago, a few houses slid off of their hill top perches and smashed right onto the beach below. Today Caroline, Fester, Christina, and I went exploring along the waterfront and found one of the smashed houses. We were thoroughly intrigued and amazed as we climbed around the stuff that was preserved after all these years… and we were equally saddened to know that more and more is uncovered and destroyed each year as weather and people do their thing. The great walk along the water and great exploring were rewarded with a great dinner at Gorditos. When I got home, I hung out with Dieter and sunned on his patio. It is a good life. :)

Saturday was a good day. :) I went downtown in search of an outfit I could wear to the wedding next weekend. Much to my surprise and delight, I ran into Brian Chung right as I stepped off the bus! We got to wander together all day... he helped me shop, we chatted about life, and we ended the lovely day with yummy, spicy Thai food in Capital Hill. After we parted ways, Dieter and I joined Andrew to watch Igby Goes Down. It was one of those funny yet disturbing movies... and I do recommend it.

I can't believe Kat's wedding is only 11 days away!! I mean, I know it's been a few years since the glory days of college, but getting married is a really grown up thing to do! Yes, yes, Kat has always been mature, serious, and sophisticated beyond her years, but she's also always been one of those fantastic individuals who have been able to maintain a childlike joy for the little things in life. We've lived in different cities for the last four years, but I am excited to be heading back next weekend to be at her wedding. I wouldn't dream of missing it!

Pike Place Market veggie stand

People always say grocery stores are good places for singles to meet other singles. Tonight on my way home from work I stopped at my neighborhood grocer and picked up some lettuce and veggies for my dinner. I noticed this man standing nearby eyeing me and he turned to me and said "Wow!! That's a big hunk of lettuce!" I nodded politely and told him that I guessed it was. He continued and said, "I mean, really, it's a big hunk!" Hmmm... while people always say the grocery store is a good place for meeting singles, I think I disagree.

Today I'm heading up to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and it looks like it's going to be 50° and rainy for most of the day. Hmmm... maybe the rain will keep away the crowds? I'm still excited about going, I just hope the weather improves a little so we can enjoy the tulips, llamas, buffalo, alpacas, picnics, parades, and fireworks. (I've never been on a weekend before, but apparently there's lots going on!). We'll hope some pictures turn out okay.

I went once before and had a grand time... no crowds and sunny blue skies! Take care!
Today is an ever so important day! In addition to being the day after my parents anniversary, it's also the super special anniversary of the day Suzan was born! Yeah! Thank goodness for Suzan! C'mon everyone together now... "Happy Birthday Suzan!!" Sometimes it's sad to remember birthdays when I'm not in the same city where I can take someone out to celebrate, but the good news is I'll be there soon enough! A few more weeks and I'll be back in Texas for a long weekend and a belated birthday celebration! Much love to Suzan today!
Today I called my apartment manager over to my place to show him how the windows were letting in excessive amounts of moisture and molding. And it wasn't just my window frames that were molding... some shoes in my closet and my laptop bag on the bookshelf was molding too. YUCK! Not attractive, not good for my health, and not good for my belongings. (Anyone have ties to the tenants association? Do share!)

I should elaborate a little so you don't think my entire apartment is covered in mold, as it is not. However, the three isolated items molding (windows, shoes, and bag) are leading me to be pretty ticked off at the windows/excessive moisture/unresponsive management. I expressed my frustration to afore mentioned landlord who suggested I clean with water and Clorox bleach. Did he offer to clean? Did he offer to replace the window, or at least the molding windowsill and paint peeling moist walls? Did he offer to pay for the shoes or laptop bag? Did he even agree to fix my torn mini-blind? I was so content with this apartment... I really don't want to have to debate moving. However, I'm scared for the rest of my stuff. If my shoes molded, what about photo albums in boxes in my closet? What about my formal dresses hanging in my closet? What about my linens and holiday items stored in my closet? I really don't want to unpack my entire closet and check every box, but I guess I know how I'll spend my "free nights" this week... Lame!

Today my parents celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary (congrats Mom and Dad!!). That's right... I grew up in a middle class family, in the suburbs, with two happily married parents who had 2 kids, a Suburban, and a family dog. Our neighbors had us over for swimming parties, home made ice cream, and super bowl parties. I played sports, did scouting, got straight As, and was on the high school newspaper staff. I was up for homecoming queen, my brother played varsity sports, and we visited grandparents most every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Does this mean I was living the classic all American life? How exactly did I get from there to here?
Okay... so apparently being sick can lead to good things... in my exhausted state last night I stayed in for the evening and rented a movie with Dieter... we rented Y Tu Mama Tambien and it was fantastic! Another movie I recommend! Yesterday I also worked in the garden for a while, finished up some paperwork at the office, made hummus, baked a gluten free chocolate cake, and baked a loaf of bread. Not a bad day, despite not being able to breathe much. Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!
Last night, despite my cold and much debating, I decided to out to dinner and see a movie. Dinner at Chutney's with Rod was quite yummy and the movie afterwards was fantastic!! We saw Bend it Like Beckham at the Guild and it was oh so fabulous! I highly recommend it to anyone! We went to an early showing so I could go home early and get sleep, but once we left the theater we were so jazzed up from the movie that we decided to hit Tea House Kuan Yin for some chai before heading home. We're standing in line at the counter and who do we run into? Caroline from the photo meetups - third time I've seen her this week. Small world! Anyway, we got to chat with Caroline and her friend Fester and it was a lovely end to the evening. Now... if only this cold would go away...

Well... not much to report here other than pain and suffering. (Nice and dramatic for a Friday, eh?) I'm still battling the cold I picked up last weekend and am still exhausted and miserable. My sore throat isn't as bad, but now I spend most of my day dealing with an alternating stuffy nose and drippy nose. Last night I increased my usual seven hours of sleep to ten hours to see if that'd give me more energy, but alas... still exhausted and it's only 9am. Ah well. It's a cold or a virus and it should pass soon enough.

In other news, I started to go through some of my Seattle photos after work yesterday. In the two and a half years I've lived here, I've been without a camera for about twelve months total. Needless to say, I'd like to take more pictures than I have. I've wanted to put together a portfolio for a long time, but I'm not finding much I want to include in it from recent times. (Guess that has to do not only with the lack of camera, but also with the working too much and devoting too little time to taking pictures I actually like). I've got tons of photos I love from back in my heavy photography times, but I believe those are all boxed up somewhere in Texas. I'm sad that I can't include them in a portfolio, but I guess this should give me all the incentive I need to go out and create a new portfolio. Hopefully I'll have time and be able to do that soon! This weekend I've got a garden party, though I kind of want to skip it since I believe it's the Little Puyallup Fair and the Daffodil Festival in Tacoma. Hmmm... such decisions. Tonight I'm supposed to hang out with Rod (haven't seen him in forever!), though I still feel like hell so I don't know if I'll be in a decent state to hang out tonight or garden or take pictures tomorrow. Such is life...

Hope everyone has a great day. Take care!

Sunday I hung out with some of the photography folks I met last month and it was much fun! We ate lunch at John's place in Queen Anne then went to Discovery Park to take some pictures. The rains cleared for the afternoon and it was actually sunny and (relatively) warm! Quite lucky! We realized that when you bring out that many photographers to one place (Cat, Caroline, John, Mandy, Nadav, and Tanya), you really need to bring a few friends along to be the subjects for the photos. (So, if anyone wants to model, do share!) After the park, we went back to John's for birthday cake (it was his birthday Monday). Sadly, we never made it to the hot tub since only a few of us brought swimsuits, but hopefully next time we'll take advantage of the tub. All in all, it was a fun evening. :)

Today I am suffering something awful from a cold or allergies (no, it's not SARS). My nose started running this weekend, and then yesterday this insane headache came on at the same time that my throat started to rebel. My throat is killing me still and the headache hasn't gone away either. I slept for maybe an hour or two total last night... yuck! I've taken Vitamin C, Claritin, and Aleve, but no success yet. Needless to say, work is dragging on today but I've got to stay since I need to interview someone at 4:30. Hope everyone is well. I've got to get back to work. Take care!

Best wishes to Andrew tonight on his birthday! We began the celebration with pizza and a movie (8 Mile), and he's continuing to celebrate around town tonight with drinking and dancing. I, on the other hand, chose to continue the celebration by staying home to work on my taxes. Wohoo. I was able to complete everything in a half hour except for one sale of stock form. (Some stock I have apparently split in an uneven amount so I ended up selling $2.33. The form lists only that info, but doesn't tell me what date I bought it at originally like TurboTax requests. Hmmm... seeing as how that was probably bought for me as a child by grandpa or someone, that will take some researching.) Anyway, that was my exciting night. I'm now tired and ready for bed. Take care!

Random Bits:
This week, from the library, we watched Season Two of Sex and the City. Dieter likes the Sopranos better, but I think he still laughed a good deal at SATC. :)
This weekend I hope to finally watch Waking Ned Devine. I heard it was a good movie a few years ago, but never get around to watching it...
This weekend I hope to catch up with the photography folks to take some pictures out at Discovery Park. I'm told there are plans for a BBQ afterwards, which could be fun too. :)
I need to stay home for a few hours at some point and clean my apartment! Wash clothes! Organize! Get my spring clothes out from storage! All of that good stuff. Oh, and I really need to wash my car after the drive to San Diego and back. It's yucky!

Okay, I'm really going to bed now. G'night...
Be proud of me... I postponed my taxes for another night and finally posted the Brides of March pictures AND the pictures from California last week! (Now if I could just sort through all of my Vancouver pictures from November and get those posted... then I'd really be doing good!). Take care!
Hello and happy Tuesday! We got back from California yesterday morning around 3am, I went in to the office for a long 11 hour work day to try to catch up, then was a wee bit too tired to blog last night. Anyway, to recap: the trip was much fun. After we left San Diego, we stopped briefly in LA where I got to do breakfast with my old roomie Meg. :) That same day we drove up to San Francisco where we stayed one night with my friend Alan and another with Dieter's cousin Christopher. :) Sadly, with only about 36 hours in SF, we didn't have much time to see lots of folks (like Nick, or Vinnie, or Joey, or Julie), but such is life when you've only got lots of driving to do over one short week with limited hours in the day. The time we did have was good though, and the weather was unseasonably beautiful for SF (mid 70s and super sunny!). Anyway, I've got to get back to work for now, but I didn't want to slack much longer on the blog. In my free time this week, I plan to get online to do my taxes and then spring cleaning and then eventually post overdue pictures of Vancouver, the Brides of March, and of California. Look for all of them sometime in the coming weeks. Take care!
