This is my lovely boyfriend Droopy. He was feeling
creative and was posing at the time, though he says that he doesn't like
the pictures now. Ah well. He's terrific and I think he's beautiful so
it's going up anyway. :) He's silly (as you could probably guess)...

This is me and Kat, with Kary before we left
for Carnaval Brasileiro... Austin's tribute to the Brazilian Carnaval (a
huge mardi gras type party) that happens once a year and sports costumes,
Samba music, dancing, and tons of crazy people! (At this point in the evening,
Kat was still fully dressed, I was already in my beaded/sequined pasties)
and Kary was already quite toasty from her own party happening inside).
This is me (in the pasties and red mask), Scott
(shirtless and in the hula skirt) and Kat (in the sequined corset and hotpants)
getting ready for the party. We were all very excited about our costumes...
and for good reason! After all, it's not called the "Festival of Flesh!"
for nothing! Note: Scott deserves to be teased for his behavior at the
event (don't we all!). He was toasty, in a conga line, and had a beautiful
topless woman rubbing her bare breasts up against him. What did he do?
Nothing! (Such a good kid!)
The
party inside the sold out event was HUGE!! 3,500 people all dancing and
grinding to the Samba sounds of the bands on stage... so much energy, so
many costumes, too much fun! A few very cool people made huge paper máche
fish (6 feet long or longer?!) and were dancing them over the crowd. Very
neato! Maybe I'll attempt to bring props next year. :)
These
three fairies were very sparkly, colorful, dancing, and drunk! (Mind you,
this same description could be applied to most everyone in the crowd!)
Of course, the best way to see the costumes was to join one of the constant
stream of conga lines that swarmed the dance floor... lines of 100 people
or more, all dancing their way through the crowds. It was very awesome!
You got to dance all over, see the awesome costumes, and be seen! What
more could you ask for?
Every
so often, the dancing gets to be too much and you need to take a breather,
get a drink, and rest (but only for a minute). During one of our very short
breaks, the Devil and Mercury stopped to pose for a minute with me and
Kat. Mercury was too amusing and was covered
entirely in silver.
I know, he lifted his skirt to show me! Really a very friendly man! Pretty
much everyone at Carnaval was just as friendly... people taught me how
to Samba, gave me dollar bills for tips, bought me snacks, and more! A
terrific crowd, a terrific party, and a wonderful time had by all!
February Trip to Enchanted Rock
We were going to make a weekend out of the trip
to Enchanted Rock and Fredricksburg... leave Friday evening, campout, hike
all day Saturday, hit the touristy Gernman town of Fredricksburg, eventually
come back to Austin, etc. However, the skies opened up Friday night and
rained like crazy. So, we opted for a shorter day trip leaving and returning
on Saturday. It didn't rain on us, but the huge sky was still a bit cloudly...

We had an amusing group with us that day... Victor
drove (as he had filled a computer with .mp3's and installed that computer
inside his car). Was a great selection of music, though the boys didn't
seem to appreciate the cheesy 80s as much as Tina and I did. Once atop
the rock, Scott and Tina were the adventerous ones... those crazy kids
explored the caves with no flashlights of their own. Wild. Next time, we'll
bring lights so we can all explore. :)
Droopy
and I
Droopy was taking in the sights (it was his first
time to the Rock), and I had brought bubbles and frisbees for the hike,
as I've done it many times and can always find new things to see or do
on the way up to the top.
