Hi. I'm Laura and I attend the lovely
University of Texas in
gorgeous downtown Austin, a wonderful city I know and love. UT is pretty
darn big. We have about 50 thousand students at UT. Yes, that's about 50
THOUSAND students all on ONE campus. As of this year, we are
officially the largest university in the United States! Be proud!

I think that the one thing making UT such a neat school
is the fact that there are so many different kinds of
people here all together on one campus. There is a tremendous amount of
diversity among our students. In addition to that, we have a good
number of freaks
and a very large international population as well. We also, of course,
have all around cool people like me who'd like to be international or a
freak.

I'm in the College of Business Administration (CBA) here at
UT. It's a great business college, ranked 5th in the nation for
Undergrad programs. For the last two summers I interned at EDS. They were both good
internships, but sadly, working 40+ hours a
week and taking
summer school every night kinda kept me pretty busy. Not to
mention dating my lovely co-worker Jason. Not a lot of free time this
past summer. This summer I trekked to Houston to work as an
analyst for Arthur
Andersen. Being a part of their Computer Risk Management group was
quite an experience. A sincere thank you goes out to the
individuals that were there for me this summer guiding me through the
crazy experience.

I am a Management Information Systems (MIS) major here, and our MIS
department is ranked 5th in the nation (go UT!).

Sophomore year I was President of the Freshman Business
Association
(I've always loved my
freshman!). FBA is a great organization designed to acclimate business
freshman to college life through business and social activites.

I'm also in the MIS Association. My first semester I was named Freshman
of the Year and was given the Denis Rodman Award (for dying my hair lots
of times!). I've just finished my fifth semester of MISA and I
still love it! Great friends,
great companies, and all kinds of fun! I was president of the club
spring semester of junior year. I've also been Vice President Programs,
VP Planning, Publicity Officer, and Newsletter Editor. Like I said,
it's a great club and the people are just fantastic (they really are my
extended family!).

In these two organizations I do about
everything I can to help out and be active (which entails about 5 bazillion
meetings each week, hmm.... maybe that's why my life is so busy?)

I'm now a senior - good gosh I'm getting old. ;) I
volunteer with Project Phase, a homeless
center near the university, and I also work with the UT volunteer
Center. And, of course, I am still a Girl Scout
(an adult Girl Scout now mind you). I've been a scout for 15 years now.

In the CBA, I was on the committee organizing the First Ever CBA
Leadership Conference and I also was on the committees organizing the
CBA Career and
Intern Expos, both are expos designed to bring big name companies to
campus to recruit and offer our students jobs. (I'm such a good kid).

Jester Center

Jester Dorm is made up of all of the buildings you see: the short
ones in front and the sky rises on the right and in the back. Jester is
the largest dorm in the whole world. Exciting, eh? I don't
live
there, but friends who do refer to it as Jester State Prision.
Can't
imagine why, I'd think it would be just one giant party place (if it
weren't for university rules...).

UT is just one big school with a whole lot to offer. It's neat if
you can take the initiative and take advantage of all it has... I'm
definitely trying to do just that.

And for the sake of fairness...

I have a big brother, whom I love to death, who graduated from
Texas A&M
University in May 1998 (finally!). If for some unknown reason you want
to visit the A&M web
page, click the picture of Bonfire, and you'll be there. By the way, I'm
very proud of my big brother, he was one of the Brown Pots for
Bonfire (ie: one of the nine senior coordinators of the largest
student ran construction project in the entire world) and he's been a
fish camp counselor too. Somehow he managed to finally graduate, get a
great job at an engineering firm in Austin, and even get engaged to a
really terrific girl, Stef. :)
